Mozart’s Underrated Opera

0

Mozart’s earlier operas were not such masterpieces as his later ones; however, they already show off his exceptional talent and prove (if proof were needed) what an accomplished composer the young Mozart was.

Lucio Silla, an opera that Mozart wrote when he was still only 16 years old, is one of the best examples of his teenage years, with youthful, sparkling music but sadly, very much underrated and seldom performed today.

The Classical Opera Company gave a rather charming concert performance of this opera, last Thu, 8th March, at Cadogan Hall. I had the pleasure of reviewing it. Click Mozart’s portrait if you wish to read it.
